Other Entertainment Media and Arts parallel to the Cinema in Bangladesh: An Anthropological Review

The film Industry of Bangladesh is currently in serious crisis in terms of market management, marketing and quality. The biggest symptom is that cinema halls are almost exhausted now a days. In this situation, other arts, entertainment media and various technological gadgets along with jatrapala, radio, television, newspaper, VCR, satellite television, computer, smart mobile phone set have worked in parallel with film in Bangladesh. Their multidimensional relationship with the different audience from various backgrounds, is observed in this study from an anthropological perspective. Ethnographic method has been employed on 258 professionals and contemporary viewers who have been working in the cinema halls of Bangladesh for the last 60 years (1956-2015). Analysis of the results shows that jatrapala has played an important role in domestic films. In addition, television and other technological medium/device have influenced the film business in different ways. However, film as an industry has not been able to hold its proper position as a medium.
