Abstract

The period from 1947 to 1971 represents an era of profound transformation in the history of Bengal, the reflection of which is also clearly evident in regional history. In this context, an analysis of the historical landscape of Rajshahi district holds particular significance, as this region has long played a vital role as the administrative, economic, and cultural center of North Bengal. This article attempts a sharp observation of the evolution of the socio-economic, geographical, and administrative systems of the greater Rajshahi region in the post-1947 period. Alongside this, the obscure settlements of the present and whatever little exists have also been presented in the article. In other words, the present article endeavors to present the comprehensive history of Rajshahi district by analyzing its historical background, geographical and administrative evolution, and social and economic transformation during the aforementioned period and the time preceding it.
