Abstract

Allah Ta'ala has sent numerous Prophets and Messengers throughout the ages with the aim of enlightening the misguided mankind with the light of guidance. After that, various heavenly texts were revealed to them. Among these books, the best and greatest book is Al-Qur'anul Kareem. The book was revealed by Allah Ta'ala in accordance with the needs of His beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) during the long twenty-three years of his prophetic life. As a result, certain laws of Islam were revealed at Makkah and some laws were revealed at Madinah. Zakat, one of the pillars of Islam, was also revealed in both the Makki and Madani eras. That is, some laws were revealed in Makkah before the migration of the Prophet (PBUH) and some laws were introduced in Madinah after the migration. So the scholars are on difference of opinion that whether the law of Zakat being obligatory was revealed in Makkah or Madinah. In this article, an attempt has been made to review the verses related to Zakat revealed in the Makki and Madani period.
